First Egg

Yesterday we woke up like every other day, Feed the chicks then the chickens. We had fed all the chickens when we noticed that one of our Brahma was squatting as if she was trying to lay for the first time. We gave her some privacy while she laid Her Egg. I was super excited that she was finally going to lay. As the day went on I saw that she still had not laid her egg. We checked her and after further examination we could see that the egg was not able to brake through all the way. I could see the cream color of the egg but it wasn’t able to break through the skin of her vent. We were stressing out that we might loose one of our favorite chickens, due to a prolapsed vent. After Trying different methods to help her push out the egg we decided to drive her over to my mothers house who has been taken care of chickens since she was a little girl. Soon After arriving she had the egg out and was taking care of willows wounds. Willow seems to be doing better but only time will tell if she makes it. Hopefully she doesn’t have this problem every time she has to lay. This day was extremely stressful and it’s only the beginning of problems that could happen in a homestead.
